Another week, another blog post! We’re only just over a week into a new year and so far, I’m on track for achieving at least one thing on my 2017 list!
Anyone who has paid for their wedding will know there is some serious saving involved that starts at least a year in advance, so when my and Wes’s five year anniversary rolled around on the 10th of December last year, we knew we couldn’t go crazy on the celebrations.
As it is so close to Christmas, we decided early on in our relationship to never worry about presents for one another, but usually try and have a special weekend together, from a weekend away in the Dandenongs to a fancy dinner and a movie.
This year, however, all of those options were off the table with only one choice left – affordable.
I’d mentioned to Wes a few weeks beforehand that I thought it would be fun to go camping on his family’s farm, so when we realised our anniversary fell on a Saturday, we decided that was exactly what we would do.
As far as anniversaries go, it was one of the best! Forget having to book expensive hotels or fork out for a three-course meal – all you need is a bit of space to pitch a tent (or a double swag in our case), a campfire, a bag of marshmellows and a laptop with a good movie ready to watch!
We were even able to spend the night with our pooches – Toshy and Opie – who had an absolute ball running amongst the freshly cut hay and sitting by the fire waiting for us to drop some of our butter chicken. (In fact the only thing I’d would have changed was a slightly thicker mattress in our swag!)
As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve enrolled in a photography course this year so I also took the opportunity to practise and snapped some pictures of our stunning surroundings on the night.
It’s safe to say that ‘getaways’ on a budget don’t get much better than this!
